Here's what you get:
LIVE Manuscript Critiques from Published Authors ON SITE!
Have you ever wanted to sit with a published author and discuss your manuscript-in-progress? This year, group manuscript critique sessions will not be a free-for-all discussion with conference participants, followed by a short remark from the professional author. Instead, the author will give the critique, and the participants in the group will listen. You'll have the full attention of the author (or several) and will also learn by listening to the critiques on the other manuscripts in your group. If you don't bring a manuscript or aren't a writer, you can spend that time asking the author questions on any writing or literacy topic of your choice.
NO Stuffy Lectures! INTERACTIVE Workshops!
Just like last year, these breakout sessions will be fresh, innovative, and interesting. Authors from all over Utah will donate their time and expertise to teach writing techniques and everything you wanted to know about the world of writing and publishing. Our list of participating authors will be available soon.
LUNCH PROVIDED!
Enjoy lunch on site from APPLE SPICE JUNCTION. (Full day registration only, and only guaranteed for people who pre-reigster.)

All this, and your money benefits underprivileged children! WE INVITE YOU to look around the site, read about this year's selected charity, and spread the word. It's going to be a lot of fun, and we can't wait to see you there!
Last Year's Donations
Last year was an incredible success! We raised thousands of dollars for children both internationally, and locally, here in Utah! We were able to put books in the hands of children in need, and we believe we are impacting many young lives. If you believe in the power of literacy, as we do, please join us!
This is a picture of children from the Future Light Orphanage in Cambodia. These are the first images taken after they received their donation. The orphanage directors sent us the following message:
"This is just a start as we want to go step by step and make the best use of your generous gift. The pictures show mostly pictures of Khmer "readers" that will be made available to individual children at the orphanage as well as for our small orphanage library.
None of our children now have any school textbooks to study and do their homework from. We are next planning to purchase text books in: Khmer Literature, math, physics, chemistry, biology, earth and environment, geography, history, morals and citizenship and a set of English for Cambodians texts.
As mentioned, our orphanage allows 70 village children to come to our small school on our grounds. The next step will be in working on helping them with their literacy needs. Following this we will reach out further in our community to reach some of the children who have nothing, and having our orphanage children be involved in helping them with their literacy needs."
Thank you, thank you, thank you to all who participated last year! So many children benefit from this conference...but here's what's in it for YOU:
History of Utah's WRITING FOR CHARITY
In 2008, Author Shannon Hale held a professional writing conference at the Salt Lake City Library in hopes of raising money for those in need. She invited other local authors to come and lend their support. The event was a success, and WRITING FOR CHARITY was born! Now, five years later, we as authors and book-lovers want to continue in this tradition of giving back.
